Lowder Insurance Agency
Lowder Insurance Agency - Est. 1960

Personal. Professional. Experience.

a Family Affair

John F. Kennedy had just been elected President when Marion Lowder first opened the door of his own insurance business at 50 South Main Street on November 11, 1960. He was soon joined by wife Mary Margaret, and in 1965 added a larger volume of clients to his expanding business by purchasing the F.V. Wharry Agency.

One by one, the second generation Lowders joined in, as well. Since the founding of the agency all three Lowder children - Marcia (Baker), Bob, and Rick have been vested at the agency, as well as two of their spouses, Rob Baker and Mary Lowder. The agency has also been staffed by longtime Zionsville residents Rob Berger and Kelly Guerra. The entire staff has grown up in or near Zionsville, and appreciates the rewards of living and working in their own community. As Bob says, "It's great to work with people you know, and who know you, too."

All agree that the town has grown substantially, Zionsville has maintained its "small town" atmosphere. It continues to be an exceptional and unique setting for both business and pleasure, connecting the old and the new. Marcia noted that history indeed repeats itself, referring to a news article regarding Lowder's purchase of the agency building in 1962. The seller, Mrs. Wayne Fox, was the daughter of Dr. F.G. Brush, a dentist who practiced in the building from 1901 to 1948. In the article, Mrs. Fox recalled how she fondly remembered watching as a child from her father's upstairs office the Wednesday night concerts in Lincoln Park behind the building. The concerts disappeared for many years, but in more recent times were reinstated, and today continue to entertain the Zionsville citizenry each summer.

The Lowders are proud to be a part of the Zionsville community, from their active participation and sponsorship of the Pete Paddock Foundation golf outing, to their friendly (and free!) Fall Festival lemonade stand at the parade each year, and the annual sponsorship of many Zionsville Community Schools progras. Congratulations to the Lowder Insurance Agency on its longtime pretense in the downtown village.

Remembering our Marcia

Marcia S. Lowder Baker
November 6, 1955 - May 15, 2015

Marcia grew up in Zionsville and was a 1974 graduate of Zionsville High School where she was active as an Eaglette and a member of the Royalaires. After graduating high school, Marcia continued her education at Michigan State University for three years before graduating with a bachelors degree in education from Indiana University.

After graduating from IU, she enjoyed a short teaching career at Sheridan and Zionsville schools before joining her family at Lowder Insurance Agency in Zionsville. Marcia was a licensed insurance agent for over 30 years helping build a business along with her brothers, husband, and sister-in-law that was founded by her parents in 1960.

Family was the center point of Marcia’s life. She spent every day of her life surrounded by those she loved the most. While home and the office filled her days, the family truly enjoyed their days together every summer at their Indian Lake Cottage in the upper-peninsula near Manistique, Michigan. The Lowder Family cottage was where so many wonderful memories were created and family life was thoroughly enjoyed. She will be always loved and forever missed by all who knew her!
